Under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Charge Nurse, the
Patient Care Sitter is responsible for constant face-to-face
observation, healing interaction, and meets the immediate safety
needs of the patient by observing the patient in patient room at
Responds to patient requests and performs other functions to ensure
optimum patient care.
Communicates in a timely manner to RN/Charge Nurse changes in
Demonstrates competency in all procedures within scope of practice,
as appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Under direct supervision of the RN, the sitter will provide
direct observation of patients for purpose of providing a safer
environment for the patient.
Observes the patient (or patients if 2 patients in a semi-private
room) for unsafe behaviors, such as pulling at lines, drains and
tubes, attempting to get out of bed without assistance or
Uses healing conversation, re-orientation and/or distraction tools
and strategies to re-direct the patient with courtesy, respect,
patience and understanding.
- The sitter will work under the direct supervision of RN, and
provide status updates and reports regarding the patient.
Together with the Registered Nurse, interventions and goals will be
established for the patient.
Refers questions about the patient to the nurse or physician.
- The sitter provides for activities of daily living by assisting
with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating,
turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and
nourishment between meals; empty trash.
- When patient is done eating, puts items back on tray, covers and
leaves by door for pick up.
- Certified Nursing Assistant's working as sitters provide routine
care to the patient as outlined in the Certified Nursing Assistant
- Responsible for ensuring that patient room and bathroom is kept
neat and clean - assists the Hospitality Services Department by
straightening patient room during shift (trash, furniture,
organizing counters and tables with patient input.)
High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year experience
Working Conditions/Physical Effort
This position requires the employee to stand, walk, bend, kneel,
stoop, crouch, crawl, and sit frequently throughout the day.
In addition, the employee must be able to frequently lift or move
objects with or without assistance patients weighing over fifty
