Job Description:

General Description: Under the general supervision of the Perioperative Manager and the direct supervision of the Patient Care Clinical Coordinator, the Pre-Admissions RN coordinates pre-admission functions with the physicians and office staff, and performs nursing assessments on all elective preadmissions, facilitates the preadmission process regarding labs, EKG's, chest x-rays and preoperative teaching. Key Responsibilities: - Performs complete nursing assessment and history, orders preoperative IV antibiotics, identifies patient allergies and medications, flags chart and completes allergy band. - Acts as a goodwill ambassador by greeting patients for preadmission testing and alleviates anxiety by instruction and preoperative teaching for the plan of care. - Notifies physicians of abnormal test results, assures that all testing required has been performed. - Follows up on abnormal test results when possible. Documenting process and any orders received. - Consults with Anesthesia on any identified patient concerns. - Maintains adequate preoperative supplies of educational booklets and other teaching aids. - Coordinates testing appointments with the physician's office. Formal Education: - Graduate of an accredited RN education program; Associate's Degree, ADN, or other two- year college equivalent required.
