Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for an innovative, self-reliant, people friendly, and highly motivated Senior Subsystem and Payload Integration Designer to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG). ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which recently launched on its sixth and most ambitious flight yet.

This position reports to the ESG Mechanical Subsystem Integration Manager within the In-Space Vehicle Engineering capability and will be located at Kennedy Space Center, FL.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with minimal oversight to develop mechanical subsystem designs, and integrate new payloads and flight experiments
  • Lead multi-discipline teams to develop mechanical subsystem and payload integration product definition including layouts, detail part definition, and installation datasets
  • Define common processes, guides and standards, and implement their use across multiple programs.
  • Review the work of team members to ensure technical excellence and first time quality
  • Perform trade studies to identify and evaluate multiple potential design and build options
  • Support part fabrication and procurement, and on-vehicle installation and test
  • Manage suppliers to define, develop and qualify mechanical, thermal and propulsion system components
  • Develop engineering dispositions to hardware non-conformances and anomalies
  • Provide design integration leadership for proposal preparation and new business development efforts
  • Lead team in the definition of project plans and provide regular progress updates
  • Track costs and use data to develop and maintain cost estimating relationships

    This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

    This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

    Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

    BasicQualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
    • 10+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role
    • 10+ years of experience with engineering and design software (i.e. CAD/3D packages - UG/NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, CREO, etc.)


      Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • Active Top Secret or the ability to obtain T5 (Tier 5) formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
      • Strong communication skills to interface with different program and customer teams
      • Proficiency with UG/NX CAD system and Teamcenter PDM, or equivalent
      • Experience providing design support for part fabrication or procurement, and on-vehicle installation


        Typical Education & Experience:
        Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        Relocation:

        This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

          Summary pay range: $113,050 - $152,950
