Boeing Defense, Space, & Security, Space and Launch division, In-Space Vehicles is searching for a Lead Space Vehicle Structural Design Engineer (Level 4) to provide support at the Kennedy Space Center. The Lead Space Vehicle Structural Design Engineer will provide strategic oversight and direction to develop space vehicle physical design to meet challenging customer requirements. The Boeing's Space and Launch division provides its government and commercial space customers with an integrated set of capabilities and the most advanced technological systems in the world. This position is located at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Primary Responsibilities: Leads team to develop, maintain and modify structures and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools (PTC Creo, CreoView, NASTRAN/PATRAN), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T - ASME Y14.5M) standards and/or other design methods, to drive product definition with other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Leads and participates in system level trades to ensure the vehicle design meets all physical, mechanical and environmental requirements. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Leads the development of qualification and acceptance level test plans to verify system designs meet requirements and specifications. Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Defines mechanical, structural, environmental design and integration requirements for the space vehicle and its constituent assemblies and components including both flight and non-flight (GSE) hardware. Defines the spacecraft drawing/model tree and assignment, general arrangement drawing/model, and all Interface Control Dwg/Models including but not limited to Moving Mechanical Assemblies (MMAs). Defines and maintains drawing/modeling requirements, standards and flow-down thereof. Defines mechanical design trade space and closure criteria. Defines the design standards required for design-analysis integrated models. Defines and executes on CCCP (Critical Clearance Control Plan) including definition and verification of CCCL (Critical Clearance Control List activities). Supports and approves of manufacturing and integration plan, Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and Virtual Manufacturing (VM) simulation reviews. Supports and approves of design reviews, test plans and procedures, critical planning procedures. Ensures that the space vehicle design meets internal and external production and manufacturing requirements using DFMAT principles. Resolves conflicts/interface issues between product organizations. Resolves anomalies including determination of root cause, containment actions and corrective actions. This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. This is a sensitive/safety-sensitive position and is subject to NASA. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): Experience with space vehicle design. Experience with design, analysis and manufacturing of structural components. Experience with structure materials and processes including metals, composites, bonded and bolted joints, etc. Experience with space hardware qualification and test requirements. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience): Experience with structural dynamics, loads and stress analysis. Experience with thermal system design and thermal hardware including heat pipes, blankets and active thermal control systems. Experience with mechanisms and mechanical systems including release devices and deployments. Experience working with suppliers and supplier management personnel. Experience with hardware manufacturing and space vehicle assembly integration & test. Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
